In early August 2020, FreedomWorks partnered with the Hulinsky family to make a summer cattle ranch retreat possible for the men. This became a memorable time. The destination was the Hulinsky cattle farm in Burtrum, MN. It was overnight, with camping, barbequing, fishing, kayaking, sight- seeing, bonfires, cattle farming, “rough-it” kind of a time! For the city slickers, a night was plenty. For the farm boys, it wasn’t enough. Regardless, the men were unified and grew closer together under God’s watch. For “the Lord owns the cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalm 50:10). A special “thank you” to FreedomWorks mentor George Hulinsky who made the retreat possible.

The Cattle Ranch retreat was pretty much a spiritual awakening for me. When we first got to the farm, I was able to go about a half mile into the pasture and pitch my tent. I spent time praying, reading scripture and getting connected with God, which was essential for my mental health. The next morning, I was able to connect with the guys, go kayaking, swimming, learn the basic operations of farming and just hang out. It was a chance for me to be filled with the Lord.
