Thanks to the amazing volunteers from Excelsior Covenant Church, the U of M Extension and our participants, our garden looks amazing! The fruits of their labor will be used by JailBreakers and given to the community at the Outreach on alternating weeks. Speaking of gardens, did you know that Appetite for Change also has a garden on our property? Appetite for Change has urban agricultural plots throughout North Minneapolis that are practicing regenerative, sustainable, and organic gardening techniques. Youth are involved throughout the process: planting seedlings, tending plots, harvesting produce, and selling it at the West Broadway Farmers Market.
One more note on our garden area: we now have a compost area thanks to Twin Cities Food Justice. They provided the funding to build a compost are so that nothing goes to waste. All of the produce and bread that is no longer edible can be composted. Continuing to work the compost along with the yard waste will provide some fertile soil for future growing seasons.
